18 Week Medical Assisting Program
Dear Prospective Student,
We have seen many medical assistants who were you not so long ago. Their stories may be different, but the desire to make a difference in this world is the same. Some of them attended a four-year institution, without ever receiving that individualized attention that would have made all the difference. With an unclear path of who they were or what they really wanted to do, some never felt smart or capable enough. Somewhere along the line, fear of failure had set in. It may come as a surprise to you that many people who never felt comfortable in a classroom setting decide to attend a medical assisting school. It’s not that they didn’t enjoy learning, but they felt unfulfilled. The fact is specialized short-term career training graduates are earning a very respectable income and have a four-year income head start on four- year institution graduates. As Medical Professionals and as Teachers, it is our passion to encourage you to step out and achieve your dreams. We believe that each of us has a calling and a purpose. Our mission to help you become knowledgeable and have the confidence to become one of the best medical assistants in the state. So, we are happy you are ready to begin the first benchmark of your new career. Don’t let fear or doubt stand in your way. We look forward to meeting you,
Theresa Robertson
School Director

ABOUT THIS FIELD OF WORK
Our student's safety is our number one priority. We make every reasonable effort to prevent injury or illness. However, it is our students’ responsibility to provide their own health and/or accident insurance. A medical assistant's job is a mix of traditional office work, including manning the front desk, answering phones and filing insurance forms, as well as hands-on tasks, such as drawing blood and preparing it for lab tests, administering injections and making sure medical histories are accurately recorded. More specialized roles include assisting ophthalmologists or optometrists with basic vision tests and helping patients learn to insert, remove and care for contact lenses. A routine visit to the doctor is really a visit with an entire team, including a growing number of medical assistants. Medical assistants are likely the first and last faces you'll see during any medical appointment, either in your doctor's office or at a larger medical organization. Medical assistants provide non-licensed medical support to physicians, nurses and other medical staff by performing administrative and clinical duties under the direction of a physician.
Their duties include:
• Patient care: Interviewing patients, recording medical histories, and taking vital signs
• Assisting with exams: Helping physicians with patient exams and procedures, including setting up equipment and instruments
• Collecting specimens: Drawing blood and other specimens for laboratory tests • Preparing and administering medications: Giving patients injections or medications as directed by physicians
• Documenting: Entering patient information into medical records, including vital signs and test results • Managing supplies: Maintaining inventory of medical and office supplies, and disposing of contaminated supplies
• Scheduling: Scheduling patient appointments
• Educating patients: Instructing patients about medications, dietary changes, and lifestyle changes
• Sterilizing: Sterilizing medical instruments and cleaning exam rooms
• Providing emotional support: Providing companionship and emotional support to patients and family members Most medical assistants work full time. They are employed in physicians’ offices, hospitals, outpatient clinics, and other healthcare facilities.

Job growth in all medical fields is largely due to the aging population as well as more people accessing medical services because of health care reform.
